"Humans never do believe, do they?"

    "Have you ever heard of the String Theory? Yes? No? Well, anyway, if you haven’t, it's a scientific proposition that maybe, instead of three dimensions, there are nine. Most scientists are controversial about this theory, but let me assure you, it is very true. The Earth that humans know is existent in one dimension or plane of the nine. The eight others are a variety of more advanced or less advanced planes and there are even some planes with magic. Or, there were. Something happened a long time ago, and the planes started crimping. Everyone, or almost everyone, has heard of the strange things that happen in the Bermuda Triangle. That's one of the windows that connects the plane Earth is on to the other planes. Or, that’s how it has been for almost forever."

    "But now, the planes' crimping has taken a turn for terminal speed. I don't know how or why the speed increased so drastically over the past few years, but I do know that it started during the later months of 2014. But now it's 2019, and the dimensions are more than just crimping. They're overlapping and molding together. And nomadic doorways are appearing between them, randomly taking beings from one plane and dropping them off in another. And no one can explain how people are just appearing out of nowhere."

    "Now, these beings that have come to Earth don't know humans customs or morals or what's acceptable according to society. Somehow, while traveling between the planes, they acquire the knowledge of speaking the native language of the beings whose plane they are landing on, or something similar happens; all that is certain is that they can understand the beings they encounter on the different plane and they can be understood as well."

    "But anyway, these beings that come to Earth talk to others about where they come from- and no one believes them. So, they all get sent to an institute, where they are supposed to get "help." Some humans stay at this institute, alongside the beings from other planes. The institute was once mostly a place for senile elderly people who didn't have any family to watch them or put them in a specialized nursing home. But the institute has now been inundated with young people; they only ever seem to be from around sixteen to nineteen. So the institute had to change how it ran; instead of nice nurses to watch over confused elders play bingo or checkers, the institute had to bring in more patient people to speak with the teenagers, either privately or in group meetings."

    "You remember the monster that used to hide under your bed, right? The thing that hid in your closet and only your mother and father could keep away from you? You grew out of that "silly little fear," but I don't think you realize something."

    "I'm not gone."

    "Of course I'm still around. You know that strange feeling you get, looking into a mirror while in a dark room? That unsettling sensation of being watched you get at the park, or in a hallway, or in the forest, even when no one's around? That inexplicable, but fleeting, fear of the dark that pounces on you, even when you know, or think you know, that nothing will harm you? That's me, sweetheart. I am still here."

    "And I am still dangerous."

    "You're looking around now, aren't you? You should be. Watch the edges of your vision very closely. No, not that closely, you won't see me that way. I can't be seen outright unless I want to be. No, the only way for you to see me is if you focus on something else. See that small, almost unnoticeable flicker of darkness in the corner of your vision? That's me, sweetheart."

    "It's always me."

    "No, don't reach for the phone. Don't try to hide either. Your window won't work and you won't be able to escape me even if you flee your house. Just climb into bed and pretend like you never saw me. Whatever you do, though . . . "

    ~~~~~~~
    Kaji is a young Shadow Kitsune. He's been nomadic for a few centuries, haunting a few humans for short periods of time before moving on. Then he passed through a certain clan's territory. Instead of being met with the expected hostility, Kaji was given a choice; he could continue wandering alone over the land, or he could join the clan. The clan's one requirement? Kaji had to haunt a specific house in the territory. Now, the territory was vast and the clan was rather small, so the hauntings were spread out over the territory so that no one would get suspicious. Kaji agreed. And for the past fifteen to seventeen years, he's been watching a little girl grow up. He was the monster that hid under her bed, in her closet, behind the curtains. He was the shadowy beast that walked her childish nightmares.
    And he was the being that heard it all.
    He followed the girl as she went about her days, sticking to the edges of her vision. He listened to her conversations, either with people or when she thought she was alone and talking to no one but herself, picking out things to use for nightmares. He peered over her shoulder when she went on the computer or she read books, and he watched when she drew or wrote. And Kaji filed it all away in his memory.
    Kaji has been haunting this girl since she was very young, almost since she was born. He's been giving her nightmares and scares and moments of unreasonable fear. But the girl is almost grown, somewhere between sixteen and eighteen, and Kaji has been with her all of these years. He's still that shadow that lingers in the corners. And, lately, he's been pushing the limits. He's made himself more visible to her, but just shy enough away from clear that his figure is still muddled and easily explained away with seemingly reasonable excuses.
    But will Kaji do something too reckless? Is he planning something, or is he just bored? Is there something going on in the Shadow Kitsune head of his, or is he just acting on impulse?
    ~~~~~~~

    A female character, from around sixteen to eighteen, is needed. Post the profile and then we can start. This RP is semi-literate. Please, at least four sentences. Aim for correct grammar and spelling. Thank you. And please include in the profile what the girl fears, what some of her nightmares have been about, and her relationship with the outside world. Again, thank you.

    ((Thank you very much for being interested in this RP, Katey76762, but I did say this was a Private After First Post RP, so it is a first come, first serve kind of system. I am sorry, but the slot has been taken by the previous user who posted. Again, thank you for being interested, and I am sorry that it ended this way. I do hope you find another RP that captures your interest.))

    Kaji could tell that Era was feeling comfortable at the moment. And he would've changed that if there wasn't the fact that Kaji liked the smell of cooking. Or, at the moment he did. Being a Shadow Kitsune, Kaji was a fickle creature for the most part. Being Kaji, he often changed his mind about things and went off of impulse-- mostly. He thought through things sometimes. Not incredibly often, though. So, Kaji stayed hidden, only sending a small shadow through the corner of Era's vision, since it was required of him. But he made it small enough that it shouldn't disrupt the great smell of cooking. Kaji listened to Era sing and watched from his shadowed perch atop a few cabinets, contemplating whether or not to hold out on a nightmare tonight and give Era a sense of false security for a short bit, before sending an especially dark one in a few nights. But Kaji was never a patient creature, so the chances of him actually waiting were slim.

    ((My chatacter's name is Alekto, but he prefers to go by Lek. He has black hair and stormy gray eyes and the tips of his hair are bleached white and dyed neon blue. And could he be a warlock, please?))

    Alekto was simply wandering through the woods, whistling brightly. The seventeen-year-old had a book in his hand, and if someone was to look closely, it was a worn paperback copy of Isaac Asimov's works, volume one. From the looks of the book, it had been read many times and, even though Alekto had tried his best to keep the book looking its best, the cover was aging and the pages were yellowing from use and age. Anyway, Alekto was headed for his favorite reading spot; sitting beneath the willow tree on the shore.

    Kaji smiled faintly-- or maybe he was smirking. It was always hard to tell with creatures like Shadow Kitsunes. But, either way, he didn't try to strengthen the shadows around Era, nor did he try to make them move. Instead, his eyes were intently focused on the cake, because even creatures who haunt humans for a living can have a sweet tooth. Kaji was already thinking ways to get his hands on the cake. And maybe he could leave Era a little message in blue fondant on her walls or tables or something later. But Kaji was determined to get that cake, even if it was a bit reckless. But no one would believe a shadow took it, so Kaji would be in the clear so long as he didn't accidentally morph into his corporeal manifestation. But Kaji was going to get that cake; it was too tempting not to.

    Alekto reached the shore with his book only to see a girl about his age going in panicked circles. He blinked at the sight for a moment, his stormy eyes failing to comprehend what he was seeing. No one ever came out to the shore anymore really. So Alekto had grown used to being there alone. The warlock blinked again, before deciding he should say something.

    "Uh, are you okay?" Alekto asked, his head cocked to one side a bit, making some of his hair fall into his eyes, shadowing the stormy gray.

    Kaji grinned widely, mischief written all over his shadowed face. As quickly and silently as he could, Kaji leaped down from his perch on top the cabinets to the cake. Shrouding it in shadows, he hurried back up to his perch before anyone could see a shadow stealing a cake. Kaji started snacking practically immediately, wolfing down the cake like a wild beast that had been starved for days. He dimly wondered how Era would deal with a missing cake, but the cake tasted so good he decided not to think and just to savor the sweet bakery good he was eating.

    Alekto blinked at the girl again. "Uhh… people coming back from the dead… Well…" Alekto really wanted to say no, since that's the answer any human would give and he was supposed to be seeming human, but the girl had just been panicking and Alekto finally figured he should tell the truth. "… I've heard rumors of it happening, but I've never seen it happen or even proof that the rumors are true." He almost said that it would take some serious warlock mojo anyway, but Alekto had a feeling that may raise some questions. Questions that he probably wouldn't want to answer. "So… why did you ask?" Please don't tell me you want to bring someone who's dead back. It could be a bad idea, he thought, silently pleading with her.

    Alekto stared at the girl for a moment. Then he opened his mouth to say something-- but he had nothing to say, so he closed it. He did this two or three times again, looking a lot like a gaping fish, before he finally had something to say.

    "What?" Alekto really had only heard rumors of people coming back from the dead, but most of that was with the guidance of a really powerful warlock. So Alekto blinked at the girl some more. The only intellectual things going through his head was literally "What? What? What?" going on a short loop. And then he realized that was rude. "Uhh… sorry, that was rude… I just… I never thought I'd ever see something like that… uhh… sorry."

    Then he realized he had yet to tell this girl his name. "Oh, whoops! Where are my manners? Ah haha, I'm Alekto, but, please, call me Lek." Alekto never did like his full first name; it always seemed awkward to him, even if it was Greek.

    Kaji quickly devoured the cake, listening to Era whistle. He had forgotten how some of the strange occurrences he caused could just slide off her, like water off a duck's feathers. He smiled, and this time it was obviously a smile. This was why he, with his fickle and impatient personality, had managed to watch and haunt this one girl for almost seventeen years; she was so interesting to Kaji. Most humans bored him instantly, some took weeks or months, but he usually tired of a human eventually. But Kaji could never completely pin down on Era's habits and ways, so he never truly got bored. So he watched her decorate the new cake and listened to her whistle with the music, and he felt a bit lazy, so he wasn't going to do anything major at the moment. Maybe once the sugar kicked in, but not yet. Right at that moment, Kaji was content with watching.

    Alekto nodded, but he didn't have any answers for Purple. He wished he could help, but Alekto was stumped and he wouldn't even know which books to look into for answers. If there even were any books with answers. Alekto had never been fascinated with death; he didn't have a morbid curiosity for that kind of stuff, magic or scientific. When he was in school, he even refused to take part in dissections, so Alekto knew he wouldn't be any help in the forte.

    "I can't help with any answers on that area, sorry," Alekto said. He really didn't know what to say here. Purple had been dead; she couldn't go home, she had been dead. So, Alekto didn't bring that up. Really, the only conversation he could think to start was about science fiction, and that may not be the best conversation to try and start. After all, Purple had been dead. Who would want to talk about Isaac Asimov at a time like that? So, to prevent himself from saying something stupid, Alekto stayed silent.

    Alekto raised an eyebrow at Purple before sitting down next to her. "You think I'd leave now? C'mon, I just made a new friend!" Alekto said, a lopsided grin on his face. He never did like seeing people looking down. Alekto always was too empathetic. "I'll stay here and keep you company! We can talk about stuff!" Alekto had his head cocked to the side again, smiling at Purple with his eyes shadowed.

    Kaji swiftly sent a few shadows to grab the bag of icing while Era's back was turned. His grinned twisted up into a mischievous smirk as his fingers closed around the retrieved and shrouded bag of icing. While it was so very tempting to simply eat the icing, Kaji had an idea instead. And he would put it into action soon. Maybe after snatching a cinnamon bun or Danish.
